Bokeh Birthday Fun with White Craft Ink

There are some techniques I never get tired of, and the Bokeh technique is definitely one of them! Our latest team challenge was to create a project using White Craft Ink, and it was the perfect excuse to revisit this soft, dreamy background.

To create the look, I blended several bright ink colours together before layering circles of White Craft Ink over the top using different-sized circle masks. The white ink softens the colours underneath, creating the illusion of glowing, out-of-focus lights. It's a simple technique, but it always looks impressive and no two backgrounds ever turn out exactly the same.

For my focal point, I paired the colourful background with a cute camera surrounded by bright flowers. Keeping the stamped images clustered in one corner lets the vibrant Bokeh background remain the star while still adding plenty of detail and interest. A few rhinestones finish everything off with just the right amount of sparkle.

Basic Steps

Blend several bright ink colours onto a piece of Basic White cardstock.
Use different-sized circle masks and White Craft Ink to build layers of soft Bokeh circles.
Allow the White Craft Ink to dry completely.
Mat the finished background with Basic Black cardstock.
Stamp, colour, and die cut the camera and floral images.
Arrange the images in the lower corner of the card.
Stamp the birthday sentiment over one of the larger Bokeh circles.
Finish with a few rhinestones for extra sparkle.

The Bokeh technique is one of those backgrounds that looks far more complicated than it really is. By simply changing your ink colours, circle sizes, or layout, you can create a completely different look every time. If you've never tried it before, grab your White Craft Ink and blending brushes and give it a go. It's a fun way to add a soft, artistic touch to any card!
