Pride of the Savannah

This week's Monochromatic Hop is featuring the warm and sunny colour Golden Glow. As soon as I saw this adorable lion family, I knew they were coming home with me! While technically they're lions, they're also orange cats... and if you've followed me for any length of time, you know orange cats are definitely my thing. 🐱

I paired the sweet family image with a monochromatic colour palette, some fun patterned paper, and simple die-cut elements to create a cheerful birthday card full of warmth and smiles.

Basic Steps

Background Layer

Cover a card front layer with Golden Glow patterned paper. Die cut a large circle opening from a white cardstock panel and adhere it over the patterned layer to create a focal frame.

Layered Panels

Add the framed panel to the card front using dimensionals for added depth. Position the circle opening so the patterned paper shows through the centre.

Stamp & Colour

Stamp the lion family image and colour it using Golden Glow tones along with coordinating browns for the mane and details. Fussy cut or die cut the image and adhere it to the centre of the circle opening.

Final Touches

Add die-cut grass and rocks around the bottom of the scene. Place a cloud die cut in the upper corner and add a birthday sentiment using dimensionals. Finish with a few embellishments if desired.

Final Thoughts

Sometimes a monochromatic card doesn't need a lot of extra colours to make an impact. The different shades of Golden Glow create plenty of interest while keeping everything bright and cheerful. Plus, any stamp set featuring adorable orange cats, regardless of size, is always a winner in my craft room!
