Lakeside Sunset Swing – Gliding Garden Inspiration

This week’s team challenge was to take inspiration from a photo taken in Gimli, Manitoba, Canada, featuring a peaceful sunset over the lake with bold black silhouetted trees. The moment I saw the inspiration photo I immediately thought of the Gliding Garden Swing set. It captures that quiet lakeside feeling perfectly.

To recreate the sunset and water, I used Garden Poetry DSP and tore strips of paper to build the layered horizon. The torn edges give that soft transition between the sunset sky and the lake water, just like the colours blending at dusk.

The dramatic black tree and swing silhouette frame the scene beautifully, creating that peaceful spot where you can almost imagine sitting and watching the sun go down. I finished the card with a few Brushed Brass Butterflies (now discounted!) floating through the sunset sky for a little extra sparkle and movement.

This was such a fun way to turn a real Canadian landscape moment into a card!

Basic Steps:

Card Base
Cut black cardstock to 4 ¼ x 11. Score at 5 ½ and fold in half to create your card base.
Background Layer
Tear strips of Garden Poetry DSP to create the sunset sky and lake layers. Arrange the strips from top to bottom to build the sunset horizon and adhere them to your background panel.
Stamp & Colour
Die cut the Gliding Garden Swing tree and swing from black cardstock I also used a scrap of black from the tree cut out for the ground, adhere it over the sunset background. Add a sentiment circle with “Sorry”.
Final Touches
Add a few Brushed Brass Butterflies across the sky to complete the sunset scene.

I love how this card captures that calm lakeside sunset feeling using simple torn paper layers and bold silhouettes. It’s proof that sometimes a little inspiration from nature is all you need to create a beautiful scene.
