WCMD Sample 3: A Walk in the Autumn Woods
Happy World Card Making Day! I'm back with my third sample, and if you can't tell by now, I have a major obsession with the Autumn Toile Designer Series Paper (DSP)! Seriously, I think I need to hoard this pattern. (Yes, it's my favorite!) For this serene, nature-themed card, I stuck to the tried-and-true layout principle but gave it a sophisticated twist to ensure my main images took center stage.
The Layout Evolution:
Instead of three distinct rectangular pieces of DSP, I used the following combination:
A large, scenic Green DSP background (covering the whole card front) with a cardstock mat.
A vertical piece of the gorgeous Brown Toile DSP matted on the left side.
The third element isn't paper, but a die-cut Circle Focal Point! I cut a large circle with a lovely embossed edge to mimic the look of two matted layers. This simple change is a great way to introduce a different shape while keeping the visual weight of the original layout.
Making the Animals Pop
This layout is perfect for nature scenes! The circle provides a neutral 'stage' for my stamped images. I colored and layered a beautiful deer and an autumn tree right on top. By doing this, the detailed images stand out beautifully against the busy patterns and don't get lost in the forest. A simple "Sending Caring Thoughts" sentiment finishes this peaceful scene.
This shows that the 3-element layout is easily customizable! Try substituting your third rectangular piece with a large circle or another die-cut shape next time you craft!
