Three Flamingos and a Birthday Song

Some cards tell a story, and this one had me smiling from the moment I started putting it together.

Created for our monthly team meeting, this card features a trio of cheerful flamingos that appear to be performing a birthday serenade. With their wings spread wide and speech bubbles floating overhead, they look completely committed to making sure the birthday recipient feels extra special.

The first thing that caught my eye with this design is the contrast between the bold black card base and the soft pastel colours in the background. The darker frame helps anchor the card while allowing the pinks, purples, and blues to really shine.

Adding a vellum panel over the colourful background creates a soft, frosted effect that gives the card depth without hiding the beautiful colours underneath. It allows the flamingos and sentiments to become the stars of the show while still letting the background peek through.

I also love the playful repetition of the birthday sentiment. Combined with the speech bubbles, it creates the feeling of a group singing in harmony. The design has movement, energy, and a touch of humour that makes it impossible not to smile.

The black ribbon adds a sophisticated finishing touch and helps tie the entire design together. It's a simple detail, but it creates a lovely balance against the lighter colours and whimsical images.

One of my favourite things about cardmaking is taking a simple image and building a story around it. These flamingos may have started as stamped images, but by the time the card was finished they had become a full-fledged birthday choir!

Fun, cheerful, and just a little bit dramatic, this card proves that sometimes the best birthday wishes are the ones sung at full volume by three enthusiastic flamingos. 🎶🦩🦩🦩🎂
