A Birthday Chorus by the Shore

Sometimes a card just makes you smile from the moment you start putting the pieces together, and this was definitely one of those cards!

I created this card for our team meeting and had so much fun building this cheerful seaside birthday scene. Instead of a traditional birthday design, I imagined a group of ocean friends gathering together to sing a birthday song. The flamingos seem determined to hit every note, while the walruses and tiny birds look more than happy to join the celebration.

One of my favourite parts of this card is the soft blended background. The pastel colours create a playful stage for all the characters without overpowering the focal images. The loose organic shapes almost feel like music floating through the air, adding movement and energy to the design.

The combination of flamingos, walruses, and birds is completely unexpected, which is exactly why I love it. Cardmaking doesn't always have to make perfect sense. Sometimes the most memorable cards come from pairing together images that simply make you happy.

The neutral ribbon helps ground the busy scene while adding texture and a touch of elegance. It creates a visual resting place for the eye and balances all the movement happening above it.

I also love how the speech bubbles filled with musical notes instantly tell the story. You don't need a long sentiment when the images themselves are doing all the talking... or singing!

This card is a reminder that birthdays should be fun, colourful, and just a little bit silly. Whether you see a professional choir or a wonderfully off-key beach band, these happy characters are clearly having the time of their lives celebrating someone's special day.

And honestly, if a group of flamingos and walruses showed up to sing Happy Birthday, that would be a birthday nobody would ever forget! 🎶🦩🦭
