Technique Tuesday – Anything Goes

Three-Colour Blend Magic with Stampin’ Up! Blends

For this week’s Technique Tuesday, the challenge is Anything Goes… which basically means crafty freedom with zero rules and I am here for that πŸ˜„

I decided to focus on colouring with Stampin’ Up! Blends, using just three colours to create smooth, rich blends with stunning highlights. Relaxing, and very easy to get lost in while “just colouring one flower”… you know how that goes.

When picking your three colours, think in layers.
Use the dark shade for your shadows
the middle shade for your mid-tones, and the
  light shade for your highlights.
Work on small areas at a time, start with your Darkest shade adding each colour step-by-step so everything blends smoothly.
Before committing, grab a scrap piece of cardstock (let’s be honest… we all have a pile πŸ˜„) and play around with different colour combos to see what you love. You might just discover a new favourite blend!
Dark -Granny Apple Green                                     Dark -Blackberry bliss
Dark -Lemon lime twist                                          Light -Berry Burst
Light -Lemon Lolly                                                Light -Bubble Bath

Simple Steps ✨

  1. Stamp your image
Stamp your floral image onto Basic White cardstock using Memento Black Ink. This ink is Blend-friendly and keeps your stamped lines nice and crisp.

  2. Choose your Blend colours
Pick three Blends for your flowers, one light, one medium, and one dark from the same colour family.
Repeat this with three green Blends for the leaves.

  3. Start with the darkest shade
Add small touches of the darkest colour in the deepest shadow areas of your image.

  4. Add the medium shade
Apply the medium colour, extending out from the darkest areas. This colour will cover most of your image, but be sure to leave some open space where you want your highlights to shine.

  5. Finish with the lightest shade
Use the lightest colour to blend everything together and fill in the highlight areas for a smooth finish.

Assemble Your Card πŸ’Œ

  1. Create your layers
Start with a card base, then cut a Basic White cardstock mat layer.
Cut a DSP layer and adhere it to the cardstock mat. (But not the card base)

  2. Add the focal layers
Die cut two circles from your DSP and adhere them to the DSP/cardstock layer.

  3. Wrap with twine
Wrap twine around the layered piece and secure it on the back.

  4. Finish it off
Adhere your coloured image, add a double bow, your sentiment, and top it all off with embellishments for a little sparkle

Why I Love This Technique

  • Perfect for any stamped image

  • Easy to customize with different colour combos

  • Very relaxing… until the cat tries to help 🐱

Thanks for stopping by for Technique Tuesday. I hope this inspires you to grab your Blends and colour outside the lines… or at least blend inside them πŸ˜„

Happy crafting!
